How the Scheme works
The Motability scheme is designed to provide mobility solutions for individuals in the UK who receive certain disability benefits, such as the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) at the enhanced rate. If you qualify, you can use your PIP enhanced rate allowance to lease a mobility scooter through Motability.
Here’s how it works:
- Eligibility: You must be receiving the enhanced rate of PIP to qualify for the Motability scheme for mobility scooters.
- Selection: Once you’re eligible, you can choose a mobility scooter from a range of options available through the Motability scheme.
- Leasing: Instead of purchasing a mobility scooter outright, you’ll lease it through Motability. The cost of leasing is covered by your PIP enhanced rate allowance.
- Payments: Your PIP enhanced rate allowance is used to make monthly payments for the lease of the mobility scooter. These payments are usually made directly from your PIP allowance to Motability.
- Support: Motability provides support throughout the lease period. This includes servicing, maintenance, and insurance for the mobility scooter.
- Flexibility: If your needs change or if you no longer require the mobility scooter, you can return it at the end of the lease period and choose a new one.
